Chihuahua Hotels
Resorts in Chihuahua, Mexico
Chihuahua (population 800,000) is the capital of the State of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. It is the twelve largest city in Mexico, an industrial center and has an economy based on manufacturing. The old city center dates from the early 1700s and a few architectural remnants from the 19th and 20th centuries remain, including the Temple of San Francisco and Mansion Creel, but Chihuahua is most definitely a city that thrives in the present.
Thanks to its proximity to the U.S. border, Chihuahua is also home to a large number of U.S. expatriates, and it has a large, prosperous middle class. Many U.S.-based businesses, including retail chains and food outlets, are located here. The city also has one of the highest literacy rates in Mexico.
Chihuahua vacations offer a number of lodging options, including Chihuahua resorts and hotels. High-end all-inclusive properties are not plentiful, but modestly priced, European-style hotels are found all over the city and most are quite comfortable. Fiesta Inn is a 152-room, business-class property roughly seven minutes by car from downtown Chihuahua and offers amenities such as a swimming pool, a fitness center and a solarium. There are kids' activities, a business center, a doctor on call, a dry cleaning service and air conditioning, all creating a pleasant experience.
Holiday Inn is also a business-class Chihuahua hotel and has 153 rooms, ten of which are suites. This hotel is guarded, has Internet accessibility and is across the street from a family-style restaurant. The plan is European-style, and the staff is attentive.
Hotel Soberano, fifteen minutes from downtown Chihuahua, is one of the city's nicest hotels. Modern and slick with marble interiors, this Chihuahua hotel features a large swimming pool, tennis courts, a cascading waterfall and lush gardens. Beautifully decorated rooms (204 of them), two restaurants and a bar greet guests and ensure a comfortable and productive stay.
The Palacio del Sol is a high-rise hotel in the heart of downtown and has been completely remodeled. Close to everything, this Chihuahua hotel offers comfortable rooms, two restaurants with international cuisines and outstanding views of the city.
Chihuahua vacations must include a ride on the Trolley el Tarahumara, a bus that takes tourists to visit the city's great museums, monuments and sculpture parks. Not to be missed are the Metropolitan Cathedral (which boasts a double altar), Quinta Gameros (one of the largest homes from pre-revolutionary Chihuahua) and the Government Palace.
