Working in Mexico
Many North Americans choose
Mexico for relocation or retirement, and some come with the idea
that they will find employment when they arrive. For the
most part, this is not feasible. As in many third world
countries, there is a problem with unemployment in Mexico, and
the government does not look kindly upon foreigners entering
Mexico with the idea of working and taking jobs away from
Mexican nationals.

Although it is not impossible
to find and keep employment in Mexico once you have relocated
here, we recommend that anyone considering coming to Mexico to
live have an income and not expect to work. If you are
intent on finding employment here, you will need to delve
further into the immigration process, pay for working papers and
be selective about possible employers. We do know of North
Americans who work for real estate agents and restaurants, but
they are the exception and not the rule. Be wary of
folks who claim you can easily get employment in Mexico. |
Having said that, it is
almost easier to open a Mexican business than it is to work for
someone else. There are a lot of hoops through which to jump,
but opening a business is very possible.
