Hermosillo, also known as "The Sun City," is the capital of the State of Sonora and is a modern, bustling city located roughly 165 miles south of the U.S./Mexico border. Home to 650,000 people, Hermosillo is situated in the Sonoran Desert, making it one of the hottest cities in Mexico with average summer temperatures of 104° F. Anyone on a Hermosillo vacation will want to embark on a bit of fun handicraft shopping in the village of Kino Viejo, 65 miles outside of the city. This quiet hamlet is legendary for its Seri work and for its selection of delicious, quaint restaurants.
