Juarez Resorts & Hotels
Experience the resorts and hotels in Juarez, Mexico
Ciudad Juarez, also simply known as Juarez, is situated just across from El Paso, Texas, along the U.S./Mexico border, and has a population of 1.5 million people. From the air, Juarez and El Paso look like one city, and with 2.5 million people living in this valley, the two cities comprise the largest border community in the world. But while El Paso thrives in the most powerful country on the planet, Juarez, a booming, sprawling, third-world metropolis where anything can happen, struggles to find its footing.
Founded in 1659, Juarez was split in two to become Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and El Paso, Texas at the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848. It became the provisional Mexican capital during the 1910 Mexican Revolution, and during the U.S. Prohibition era gained notoriety as a place norteamericanos from the dry U.S. came to drink, gamble and carouse. Even after Prohibition ended, Juarez' colorful nightclubs, brothels and casinos continued to draw tourists from north of the border.
Today, Juarez has some things going for it. Its people are kind and welcoming, and the city has one of the highest literacy rates in Mexico (97%). It is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the world and is home to numerous well-known international companies, including Boeing, Bosch, Delphi and Siemens. Its proximity to the U.S., low labor costs and a good infrastructure entice foreign investment, giving Juarez one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world.
At the same time, though, Juarez is dealing with ruthless drug cartels, bone chilling violence and sky-high poverty rates. While there is much to see on a Juarez vacation, utmost care must be taken to protect oneself when visiting this border city where lawlessness often seems to be the status quo. Visitors from the U.S. and from other developed countries may be shocked by the grinding poverty seen here. While employment is high, wages are abysmally low.
Juarez hotels and resorts come in all shapes and price ranges. The vast majority are on the European plan, meaning that only the room is included in the price - everything else is extra.
