Dia De La Madre
Mom's Day in Mexico
Dia de las Madres (Mother's Day) is celebrated on the 10th of May every year in Mexico. It is a day to celebrate motherhood and everything about it. The Mexicans, being Catholic, are very sensitive to the mother's needs. On el Dia de las Madres, the mass is a special one, with a special song sang to the Virgin Mary, and to all the mothers of the world. Most of the time, mothers will receive nice gifts from their husbands and children. The Mexicans really honor their mothers on this day because of the pain and suffering it takes to bring a child into the world, and the constant struggle it takes to raise a child. Mothers are always giving up things for themselves so that their children might have a better life. A special breakfast is also prepared either by the children and husband, or a local diner or café will always have a special mother's day breakfast prepared. Children will also give their moms poemas del Dia de las Madres, or poems for Mother's Day. There are always vendors selling flowers, teddy bears, and other gifts for children to purchase for their moms. Tarjetas (cards) for el Dia de las Madres are also readily available for purchase as well. The Mexican culture is very attentive to the needs of women on a daily basis, and when May 10th comes around, it's no different for the Dia de las Madres. This is a chance for the kids to really show their appreciation for mom.
