Festival Of San Cristóbal De Las Casas

Infor on San Cristobal de las Casas

To understand the Festival de San Critobal de las Casas, you must first get to know the area of San Cristobal de las Casas. It is said to be one of the most interesting places in Mexico, as the Mayan culture is still in such strong effect. You can go there and experience the Mayas as they lived hundreds of years ago. San Cristobal de las Casas is in the state of Chiapas, in the southernmost region of Mexico. San Cristobal was the town's first bishop, and was revered for his stand with the indigenous people. He wanted them to be treated fairly, and he fought hard to see that through. It was also one of the four cities to be captured by the Zapatista army. It's got a colorful and vibrant history of topsy turvy events, but still you can find hand embroidered clothing made locally by the Mayas of that area.

The festival of San Cristobal de las Casas is every year around Christmas, where everyone decorates their storefront or home with Santa Claus and lights and nativity scenes. They also light candles for San Cristobal. There is lots of singing and dancing during the festival. They will often set up a stage for live music and have mariachi. There's always going to be food to eat, as the local people in San Cristobal de las Casas love to cook. It's a very important festival to the people of this town, so if you get a chance to go experience it, I highly suggest it!
