San Miguel and the festiavl in his honor
In San Miguel de Allende, the patron saint is San Miguel, Saint Michael the archangel. Every year at the end of September, the people of the city have a huge festival in his honor. It is called la Fiesta de San Miguel. The 29th of September is the day they celebrate San Miguel with arts and crafts festivals, food, drinks, and a bullfight. The festival is for the patron saint, who was said to have come through and save the indigenous people from the area from absolute death when they fell under siege from a rival army. The Indians in the area believe that this was a sign from their god that the Spaniards actually were going to bring some good to their country. San Miguel de Allende is located in the state of Guanajuato, but people come from all over for the Fiesta de San Miguel. Most schools let out for this event, and it is very special in this area. The is a huge fireworks display to re-enact this battle, along with the clash between the devil, God himself, and San Miguel, the archangel. The fireworks display put on in his honor is something to see â€" they bring in the best of the best to make impressive lights in the sky. There is a long parade procession to precede this awesome display, as well. All throughout the day, every one anticipates the fireworks show for the Fiesta de San Miguel.
