National Silver Fair
Who doesn't love silver jewelry?!
The National Silver fair is once a year in Mexico's most beautiful city, Taxco (tas-ko) which is located just south of Mexico City. This town still boasts super narrow streets, foot traffic only, and cobble stone streets. There are silver shops and stores around every single corner. The silver fair is held in November, and is free to go â€" just make sure you take money to spend â€" you will most definitely find something you love! Being able to boast that you are the silver industries largest source is something else. The fair started out by being just an appreciation get-together for all the local artisans, and has escalated to becoming a national and international event, with silversmiths and artisans from all over the world coming to see all the jewelry and works of art. In 1937, William Spratling started the fair to show off the artisans of the area, and now it has even been coined "Mexico's biggest silver jewelry contest" so if you are in the Mexico City area, take a short drive southwest and check out Taxco! The silver piece you will find here are unlike any others you will find in Mexico, it is well worth the trip, and any purchases made, you know will be almost one of a kind pieces!
