There has been a decrease in tourism to the area in the last couple of years, in part because of the sluggish economy, but also due to misdirected fears about traveling to Mexico due to border crime. All in all, Rocky Point has not been affected by the crime at some border cites, and it is as safe as ever to visit and stay.
While business has slowed considerably, Rocky Point is one of the best and most affordable places to visit and makes a great alternative to the more expensive excursions to places such as Hawaii, Cancun or even Southern California. The area is touristy, but not expensive like other popular Mexican destinations, and it is not nearly as far as the others either.
Rocky Point offers the same that any other beach vacation paradise does, if not more, and this undiscovered gem in the desert is closer than ever to millions of parched and beach starved residents of the desert Southwest. Long been a favorite destination for Arizonans, Rocky Point was coined Arizona’s beach, and the name stuck. However, thanks to an improved highway infrastructure and expanded air service, getting to and from Puerto Penasco Mexico has never been easier or affordable.
Only a three hour drive from Tucson, and a four to five hour trip from Phoenix, it is becoming a more popular destination for visitors coming to Arizona from the world over to see the desert. Since it is so convenient to get to, many choose to head down to Rocky Point for a day or two and enjoy the warm beach atmosphere to cap off their vacation experience. There is nothing like seeing a desert sunset over a clear, blue and tranquil sea that welcomes nearly 1000 different species of fish and marine life.
Since there are so many good bargains in terms of accommodations these days, consider looking at some Rocky Point beach homes instead of traditional hotel rooms. You can have a whole house, complete with any amenity you want for about the same price for a hotel stay for you and your family. Right along the water, they make the perfect way to enjoy the beach as well as the town from a different and more comfortable perspective.
Don’t let the low prices or the economy deceive you, there are sill peak travel times which make Rocky Point beach homes a little on the expensive side, and the best advice is to travel when everybody else is not. Try and avoid spring break and holiday weekends. Christmas season is also crowded. A good rule of thumb is to follow the traditional school schedule, and head out when everyone is not on vacation.
