Rocky Point Spring Break 2011
Rocky Point Mexico, also known as Puerto Penasco Mexico in Spanish, is a city that is located about 215-miles south of the Arizona Border. Rocky point is located on the strip of land that connects Mexico with the Baja California peninsula. Before the 1990s, the city of Rocky Point was only used by residents of California and Arizona as a weekend retreat. It has been known as “Arizona’s Beach” because it is located closer to Phoenix than any other major Mexican city. After 1993, the Puerto Penasco government joined with private investors to promote it as a tourist city. Since then, many developers have built condominiums, hotels, restaurants, RV facilities, an airport, and a golf course complex to entice tourists.
Weather in Rocky Point is very warm. During the summer season, the temperatures average at 84°F, although it is not uncommon for the temperature to reach as high as 110°F. Because Rocky Point is part of the Sonora and Altar Deserts, it is a very dry area with mostly sand and beaches. The water is crystal clear and very warm and the skies are almost always blue. This makes for a great vacation spot. Rocky Point’s average rainfall is about 2-inches a year. When considering vacationing at Rocky Point, the traveler can almost guarantee sunny, warm weather.
Spring break is normally held over the week of Saint Patrick’s Day to lessen the amount of partying and drinking on college campuses. For many years, college students would plan their vacations in sunny, warm climates that were located in the United States. Due to the change in the legal drinking age in 1985, many spring breakers began traveling outside of the United States. The most popular vacation spots for spring breakers are Cancun, Acapulco, Barbados, Puerto Vallarta, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Rocky Point. Today, students spring break in Mexico for the drinking age limit is only 18.Rocky Point depends on the tourism of spring breakers for their economic support. Over the past five-years, Rocky Point has seen a significant growth in tourists of all ages. Many of the people that vacation there stay in hotels in Rocky Point, or one of the more luxury resorts. If you plan on taking a trip down, make sure you book your reservations in advance.
Rocky Point spring break offers many amenities that are not offered in other areas. Not only is the location close to home, the weather perfect and the beaches plenty, and there are many places for spring breakers to party. During the day, spring breakers can soak up the sun, dirt bike, jet ski, windsurf, boat, and dive. There are many shopping districts in Rocky Point for the avid shopper, and sporting bars. At night, Rocky Point offers bars, canitinas, nightclubs, beach parties, bonfires, and concerts. Spring breakers are always guaranteed good music, plenty of dancing, cheap drinks, and lots of people.
Rocky Point spring break has an increasingly large crowd of American students, mostly from New Mexico, Arizona, and California. It is estimated that 60,000 students traveled to Rocky Point during Spring Break 2010 to enjoy their hard earned break. In 2011 Rocky Point spring break is expected to surpass 70,000 students.
