Swimming In Puerto Penasco Mexico

As you plan your next beach getaway, think about how nice it will be to be swimming in Puerto Penasco Mexico. While many people are afraid to head south of the border due to the widely reported acts of violence along the border, the truth is that most of Mexico is very safe, and Rocky Point is one of those places.

Situated about 60 miles south of the Arizona/Mexico border is one of the best beach areas in the world, and since it is not well known to the masses, it makes a great and affordable getaway, whether for a day or a month.

Miles of smooth sandy beaches makes it a perfect place to bring the family for some fun in the sun. The big difference in going to Rocky Point as opposed to other areas is the fact that the weather, water and terrain are perfect for swimmers of any age.

California is the second closest beach destination, but they are very crowded, dirty, and the water is cold. In Puerto Penasco, the water ranges from the 60’s in the middle of winter to the 80’s during the summer months. Combine that with the arid and warm climate of the Sonoran desert, it makes for a comfortable and peaceful vacation.

Another advantage of heading to Mexico for a swim is that there are actually beaches. How many lakes in Arizona have expansive, uncrowned and safe beaches to sun and play in? Not many, and in fact, many swimmers will tell you that you need a boat to really enjoy the water. Not in Rocky Point. You can walk right from your hotel room and stick your toes in the warm and clear water without even having to pack shoes.

Because of the geography of the Sea of Cortez, the area does not get much bad weather. There are times in the winter when it does get cool and windy, and the summer brings passing storms occasionally, but overall the region only gets a couple of inches of rain per year. The result is relatively calm water and open beaches which makes for a comfortable and fun filled swimming experience.

Getting to Rocky Point is only a three to four hour drive from most of Southern Arizona, and residents of Tucson and Phoenix have been calling Rocky Point home for a long time. Now that the word is getting out about the great beach life, incredible scenery, inexpensive accommodations and great culture, people from other areas are discovering this gem in the desert.

The next time you are visiting the Southwestern United States, make plans to take a day or two and head into Mexico for some fun in the sun. You will need a passport or passport card, as well as Mexican auto insurance when you get to the border, and whatever you do, do not forget your sunscreen and camera. Swimming in Puerto Penasco Mexico is one great and affordable way to get out of town for a while and relax.
